Dr. Olivia Simon is on duty in the emergency room of North Carolina's Outer Banks Hospital when a gunshot victim is brought in. Midway through the desperate effort to save the young woman's life, Olivia realizes who she is - Annie O'Neill, the woman Olivia's husband, Paul, is in love with.

When Annie dies on the operating table, she leaves behind three other victims: Alec O'Neill, who thought he had the perfect marriage; Paul, whose fixation on Annie is unshakable; and Olivia, who is desperate to understand the woman who destroyed her marriage. Now they are left with unanswered questions about who Annie really was - and about the secrets she kept hidden so well.

The story pulled me in pretty quickly and kept me interested. The journey of the story is a little predictable but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. I don't usually do sequel books but I will listen to the stories that follow in this one. I like the writer.

This book was an absolute treat. From the character development to the jaw dropping twist at the end...amazing. I can surely see a movie being made from this storyline. I was however left feeling empty where Olivia and Alec were concerned. I would love to see a second book , “After the Storm” that drops us back in the same time. I was left wanting more & I love a book that does that! Kudos to the Narration of Arielle DeLisle she brought this significant book to life.

Thoroughly enthralling

An amazing book 1 of the Kiss Trilogy. I had a really difficult time putting it down. Excellent character development, with multiple great characters. Some twists and turns. The narration was amazing. Arielle DeLisle is defintely a class act. She does amazing accents, that leaves no doubt as to who is speaking. Does Great with Men, women, cihildren, etc. Can't wait to read the next book.

WOW!!!

The first half was a challenge for me - especially the (1) horrendous narration of Annie and (2) the whole build up to Annie being this ridiculously revered woman who supposedly only thinks of others.

As the story finally reveals, Annie was no saint and in my opinion put herself entirely first.

Olivia finally develops a backbone - what she ever saw in Paul is beyond me.

The second half was enjoyable and nicely put the pieces together.

Stick with it

I enjoyed the book, but the male voices ruined it. The men sound like hicks!!! Same as in The Courage Tree and The bay at Midnight. Get a man to do it!!!
