Since the Wars of Darkness 300 years ago, the kingdoms of Szarmi and Lunameed have had only a fitful peace. Now, as the tension between them continues to grow, there is only one secret hope: that the broken prophecies of old will be fulfilled. Amaleah Bluefischer, Princess of Lunameed, must determine whether she is destined to save the world. But how can she save anyone when everything around her seems to be collapsing? She is caught in political intrigue with the High Councilor, her nursemaid is a spy against her, and her father is going mad: he has proclaimed his wish to marry her! Meanwhile, Prince Colin Stormbearer is soon to be the king of Szarmi, but there have already been multiple attempts on his life. His coronation is drawing ever closer, but will he survive until then? Together Amaleah and Colin have a chance to take control of their destinies and to do the one thing countless generations before them could not: fulfill the First Prophecy.

I'll start my review by saying that fantasy isn't my favorite genre (though I do enjoy Brandon Sanderson, George Martin, and Patrick Rothfuss). That being said, I really enjoyed Keepers of the Light. It was a good story, with interesting characters and had a good setup for the sequels. I particularly like the character of Red Beard and hope that he will play a major role in the follow on novels. The pacing was good and I enjoyed the flashback scenes interspersed throughout the book, detailing events that occurred to set the stage for the novel's main story. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy (and even if you aren't).

The performance by Alex Moore was excellent as well. She did a great job giving the characters their own voices and personality.

Excellent first fantasy novel

I found the story captivating and found myself making time to listen. I didn't really enjoy the narrator and often found her distracting, but the story line kept pulling me back in. A great read, and I'm looking forward to the next book!

Strong, intriguing story
