It only took four years for the world to fall apart.

Now the last member of my family has died, and I'm forced to travel across what's left of three states to find the only people I know left alive. To survive, I'll have to scavenge food and supplies and try to avoid violent men who've learned they can take what they want by force. The only way I'm going to make it is by trusting Travis.

Travis used to fix my car, and now he's all I have left in the world. He's gruff and stoic and unfriendly, and I don't really know or like him. But he's all I have left. He'll keep me safe. We'll take care of each other. Until we reach what's left of our town and can finally let go of one another.

Last Light is a standalone post-apocalyptic romance set in the near future after a global catastrophe.

I saw this book on Booktok which is always hit and miss. I loved it. I love the journey of hope and humanity. And the romance was great, just the right amount of steam and emotion. The performance was also topnotch. I’m happy I discovered this one.

Unexpected delight

I've always enjoyed apocalyptic style stories but this one is my favorite over all of them. It has changed what I choose for books now. It was always end of the world or female detective books but now it's all romance from here on out. Kent really knows how to engulf you into the story. Escorted is another one she wrote that I love. The narrator does an epic job doing both female and male voices.

Loved the narrator and simplistic storytelling. She does excellent male voices, which you don't find often.

One of my favorites

Last Light is a standalone romance from Claire Kent but it does exist in the same post-apocalyptic world of her Kindled series. I was reading and loving that series and noticed we meet Travis & Layne in those books so I was so curious to go back and read their story! If you love post apocalyptic romances, road trip, age gap, and survival stories…this delivers and is so good!

This post-apocalyptical romance read (and Kindled series) is set in the near future after a global catastrophe. In this world, Earth was hit by an asteroid 5 years in the past and it not only wiped out an entire continent but it has since wreaked havoc on the environment, economies, population, and governments around the world. Now living in a post-apocalyptic world, daily life is dangerous and isolating for those remaining.

The story opens with Layne and Travis running into one another while both our surviving. They realize they actually lived in the same town before the Impact, he worked as car mechanic and she was living with her grandparents. Even though they knew one another in the past, Layne is rightfully cautious and wary of others, especially men in this dangerous new reality. So when Travis offers for them to travel together, Layne says no and they go their separate ways. They end up running into one another a bit later and he comes to her aide during sticky situation with drunk strangers. They start traveling together and Layne shows him a warning note she found about Fort Knox, a place where many of the remaining people from their town went to.

I loved this road trip, survival romance! The tension between Layne and Travis is so heightened with both them trying to survive, sharing beds together, and just all the sexual tension growing as well! Travis feels like he’s “too old” for Layne and is so surprised when she wants him to make her feel something good for a change. 🔥 Claire Kent’s heroes in this series are grumpy, a bit gruff, and fell so much for the heroines, and omg I just love them so much! I love the harsh realities of survival everyone in this series is dealing with, seeing them find comfort and hope still in this heavy world. Travis and Layne were so sweet and wonderful together, we got sooooo much time of just them 2 on their own and I just love road-trips like that, when they find the dog 🥹🥰, so many good moments!

Amazing audio for this amazing post-apocalyptic, survival romance!

I love this genre and no one does it better than Claire Kent. Ive all of her Kindled series the second they are released. I've read and listened to Light Light more than a few times. She created such an interesting world with great characters and some spicy-spice. 5 stars.
