Lark experienced the devastating loss of her 19-year-old son to suicide. Having already lost her father to suicide five years earlier, this second death hit hard. All expectations for the future were erased. Everything became difficult. Even breathing felt like a conscious decision.

This is the story of her raw and painful journey through despair and grief. It is standing on the brink of an abyss ready to pitch into the darkness and making the very difficult decision to step away from the edge. Lark shares how this decision has helped her heal from both her son's and father's suicides. It is her desire to instill hope in those who wonder how, or even if, they can go on.

Lark did an incredible job writing her book! She shares her story with so much vulnerability and honesty about her childhood and family life and does an amazing job at spreading a message of hope and suicide prevention. She brings awareness to how prevalent suicide is in our world today and spreading awareness of signs and talked about what truly matters in life. Reading this book really had me pondering about life and inspired me to talk with my children about suicide and tell them if they're experincing certain feelings or thoughts to come to me or their Dad about it so we can talk through these feelings with them and for them to know that NO MATTER WHAT, they're always loved and that's what truly matters most. She has a beautiful heart and I could feel her strong desire to spread awareness to hopefully prevent the grief and pain that they've experienced as a family. I highly recommend that everyone read this book.

I absolutely loved this book!!

I come from a family who’s experienced suicide as well. Even though it’s many many years ago, it can still impact you down the line. I read this as an adult and it made me realize things to understand about suicide or even the thoughts of the family members who will be left behind. Makes you look at both sides of the situation.

This is a must read!!

Loved the psychologist between chapters!

Lark’s willingness to open up about her and her son’s struggles will bless many families in the future. Lark is honest about how devastating her sons suicide was for his family members, friends, and all that knew him.

The psychologist’s explanations about how we process things was very helpful and informative and opened my eyes to understanding other people’s reactions in life.

I was inspired by Lark’s willingness to speak out about suicide in order to keep other families from suffering like her family has. I finished the book determined to have better conversations with each member of my family in hopes of preventing another casualty in the war against suicide.

This was a remarkably raw and emotional read. Thank you Lark for your transparency.

Heartbreakingly honest

What if the unthinkable happens? Wait, if it’s unthinkable then why do we think about it? And if we can think about it we can talk about it. And if we can talk about it we can handle it and save some lives in the process. Thank you Lark for sharing your courageous journey!

A story that needs to be told

This book feels very authentic, and unique. Hopefully, people will enrich their minds and hearts, and seek to be lifters to their fellow man in consequence of the knowledge, wisdom and heart-felt experience imparted by this book.
Also, the conversational format between Lark and Paul in the last part of most chapters was a very helpful technique for sharing these types of things. I feel uplifted by this book, and I feel changed for the better.

Truly no man is and Island.
