So it started out so good. The descriptions of Auschwitz, I really thought that was going somewhere. I was disappointed when that kind of just abruptly ended and we skip forward, BAM there's a quite ridiculous-sounding demon in a basement, and then BAM, one of the main characters is dead, and it all just kind of went downhill from there. I was really grossed out by the descriptions, so that was a good thing. I'm just disappointed that there was so much potential for more story and it just didn't happen. And the demon was kind of cheesy.

Ehh, it was okay

Man I love Daniel Volpe. His writing is so graphic and detailed. I’m a horror junkie and this book was exactly my preferred genre of choice. It was vivid and suspenseful but the story was so deep. It makes you question, how far would you go for the ones you love? Highly recommend this read for any of my fellow horror lovers. This was my first Volpe book! Can’t wait to read more. 5 stars!!!

The author really did his homework on this one. The sights and sounds of World War II Germany were very vivid and work to immerse the reader in the experience. I’ll warn you they are so well done, it’s gut wrenching.
The tension of the protagonists profession in Poland also makes for a tense situation as he is sought after for certain death if the Nazis find out. It all adds to the hopelessness and the cunningness of Joseph to find a way out of Auschwitz, the most notorious concentration camp in history.
The ending will surprise readers as it takes a strange turn and displays even more gruesome scenes. Some of the most bloody in the whole book. If you have the stomach to handle this book you will be greatly rewarded. The story and characters are one of a kind and well put together. I highly recommend this one.

Historical value with dread and gore

As my first Volpe literary experience, I found the book very entertaining. His writing flows flawlessly. I was, however, expecting a bigger punch in the storyline when I reached the later part. But overall, this work deserves the good reviews it is getting. I was just expecting a darker execution of a dark tale.

A well-written tale of horror

the acting was cartoony but not unpleasant, I was delightfully surprised with the writing, not the most complex prose but still enjoyable and that ending-
