A writer’s misguided suspicions ruined his life once before. This time he plans to prove he’s right in a New York Times bestselling author’s haunting short story of what happens when seeing is not believing.

Will, an aspiring novelist, can’t stop parsing his ex-girlfriend’s popular social media accounts for clues that her ideal new rural life with the perfect man has a dark side. After all, nobody he knows has actually seen the blissful blogger in the flesh for nearly a year. When Will draws a wary friend into his “investigation,” the real question becomes who’s truly in danger.

Lisa Unger’s Let Her Be is part of Hush, a collection of six stories, ranging from political mysteries to psychological thrillers, in which deception can be a matter of life and death. Each piece can be read or listened to in one truly chilling sitting.

good story overall - the end was abrupt and just ended. Felt it need a little more - i understand it was a short story. Was an ending you didn't see coming though... lol

Love it until the end... lol

I don't know what the rest of Lisa Unger's work is like, but this definitely felt like she was trying to channel Patricia Highsmith, particularly This Sweet Sickness. Of course, this lacks this finesse of Highsmith's work, although Unger does a solid job of creating a tense, foreboding tone.

Narrator is solid. Writing is solid. Story is... honestly maybe a retelling of This Sweet Sickness? Not only are the plot and narrative voice similar, the characters are named Anisa/Annabelle and Emily/Effie. Coincidence?

This Wants to be Highsmith

Second Hush short story audio and am really enjoying them. Loved the mystery and the characters. Enjoy that they are written by different authors, you can get to know more. The narration was very good.

A terrific, quick read. If you have a little time to fill, this is a great book to fill it. Dark and devious. Loved that ending.

I can't imagine a better narration for this book. The performance really enhanced the story.

Terrific

It was a good short story. Didn't love it though, I guess I was expecting a bit more. Or maybe it's that I found it so annoying that the character kept bringing up his suicide attempt over and over and over again. It was a nice read, but not something I would read again.
