Hard-boiled, private detective Rachel Cord pursues multiple threads seeking a runaway teen and why gay performers are being beaten at Miss Kitty's Kathouse Kabaret - threads that twist and bind Rachel within a tight cord of lost love, child pornography, rape, murder, and near insanity, leaving her to question her personal credo that "Life's a bitch. So am I."

Would you listen to Life's a Bitch. So am I. again? Why?

This is the first gay PI story I've ever read. Very interesting with insights into the problem of gay bashing in our society. Great story line, fast-action and brilliant tight prose.
I finished the book in four days. Now that it is out in audio on audible bought it again and enjoyed it all over again.

A good book if you don't mind graphic scenes, violent sex scenes and bad language. The ending was very long winded, otherwise an intense read.

There are some nice moments in this book and the theme is different than the usual run of books in the genre. Unfortunately there are way too many times when the story just drags for extended periods of time. In addition to that there were far too many contrived situations that just didn't fit into the narrative effectively. I really wanted to like this book and I'll probably take a shot at later episodes in the series but I can't recommend this one.
