Lillian is 20 years old and on the verge of receiving a degree from the community college in office practice and administration. She also has a boyfriend about whom she is getting to feel very serious. He is a young man who is industrious and far-thinking.

Lillian finds herself working for a semester in the office of the high school from which she graduated two years earlier.
Although a job at the school was not her ultimate goal, she very much enjoys the environment and the people she works with, including the principal who was known for some no-nonsense school discipline, something she never had to experience.

However, when Lillian violates a school prohibition against using district computers for personal business, she finds her job in jeopardy when her misstep result s in the school computer system downloading a dangerous virus.

Faced with being fired, Lillian makes one final plea to the principal, offering to face another penalty instead.
