Only a few generations ago, we lived in direct and constant contact with nature in a tightly-knit group of hunter-gatherers. Autonomy, intimacy, and equality ruled, and our authenticity could be freely and fully expressed.

Paleoanthropologist Dr. Miki Ben-Dor proposes actual cognitive and dietary means to ameliorate the emotional and physiological discontent that stems from the mismatch between modern life and our evolutionary past.

This is an amazing book, one of my favorites, all about our human evolution, and how to apply those principles to modern day life! I’ve had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Ben-Dor several times, and I learn something new every time. Can’t recommend his book enough!

Amazing book with tons of practical advice!

Miki makes the argument that prehistoric humans lived according to a moral code. Miki believes he’s uncovered this moral code. There’s really no evidence offered to support his assertions. The unfortunate part of this manifesto is that Miki believes this belief system could be implemented in modern society. I really couldn’t finish this book. I’m sorry I bought it. Miki has some interesting ideas about prehistoric hunting practices. It’s best to say that it’s an interesting area of study. That’s the most one can say about the evidence. It’s totally unwarranted to devise some moral worldview of premodern humans. I just think it’s hubris to believe we could understand their worldview with the scant evidence available.

Not what I thought
