Anyway, he’d rather make a bad decision with Wade than a good one with anybody else.

Promising and enjoyable start to a series.

At first I thought this was going to be the usual boy leaves small town, leaves boyfriend behind, comes back years later, and all live happily ever after. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was wrong. It does start out looking that way, but as the story develops it takes an unusual and interesting turn. It took me a little to get into it because I had a bit of trouble getting used to the main character, but by the end I very much liked him and am looking forward to the other books in the series. The relationship with the old boyfriend is very interesting and I'm anxious to discover how that develops as well. The narrator is new to me, and it took some time to get accustomed to the cadence of his reading. It seemed choppy in the beginning and I don't know if he started to read more fluidly or if I just got used to his style, but I didn't mind it after a while. I would definitely recommend this story and can't wait to listen to the rest of the books as they become available.

This was so good! I didn't know what to expect but I was entirely engaged and a bit disappointed it ended so soon!!

The start of an excellent series

I haven't read Long Shadows in years, so I was delighted to get a complimentary copy (thanks, Kate Sherwood!) of the audiobook. It was a pleasure to revisit these characters, and I hope the rest of the series comes out on audio soon!

So good.

Perfect mix of romance and suspense. Love that the characters are real and exist in shades of gray vs strictly good vs evil.
