When did Christians stop being kind?

Rediscover what it means to "do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8, ESV).

Kindness is not what we have been taught it is. It isn't a soft virtue expressed only by sweet grandmothers or nice Boy Scouts. Kindness is neither timid nor frail. Instead it is brave and daring, willing to be vulnerable with those with whom we disagree. It is the revolutionary way that Jesus himself called us to live. The way of selfless risks. The way of staggering hope. The way of authenticity.

Dr. Barry Corey, president of Biola University, believes we tend to devalue the importance of kindness, opting instead for caustic expressions of certainty that push people away. We forget that the essence of what God requires of us is to "love kindness". In this book, filled with stories from his travels around the globe, Barry shows us the forgotten way of kindness. It is a life that calls us to put ourselves at risk. A life that calls us to hope. A life of a firm center and soft edges. It is the life Christ invites us to follow, no matter what the cost.

This book was very well written and doable. I truly believe I can use this in my daily walk.

Important & Practical

There are so many takeaways for me from this book that after listening to it on Audible the first time, I purchased a print copy to immediately begin rereading and marking up.

Some might not appreciate what may seem to be rabbit trails the author goes down as he shares his personal history, but I felt this gave me a peek into his soul.

A firm, well informed center coupled with winsome soft edges will be the goal of my Christian witness for as many years as the Lord blesses me with.

And may convictional civility mark all of my discussions about the important issues of our day, especially with those who hold differing opinions from mine.

(The bonus in this Audible book is that Wayne Shepherd is the reader. I'd listen to him read a 7th grade science book!)
