An arranged marriage... A tormenting neighbor...

When Lydia's father tells her he's obtained a husband for her, Mr. Thornton, she doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. She'd only met the man once before, and he'd immediately left her stranded in a ballroom after asking her to dance. How could she marry a man who already deemed her forgettable?

Edward Thornton has succumbed to the allure of gambling one too many times, to the point where he loses his house in a game of cards. But when the man who won his house offers him a deal he can't refuse, he agrees to marry the man's daughter in exchange for a chance to redeem himself.

The newlyweds immediately travel to Thornton's country estate. But when someone starts leaving threatening notes on their door, Lydia and Edward must work together to determine who is in danger.

Can love thwart the evil that threatens to destroy their relationship?

Hated the narration. Mary Sara can destroy any good story. I listened to this one because it was free. I make it a point to give anything she narrates a hard pass when spending my credits.

Loved the Story

I would classify this as Young Adult. It's a clean romance that moves along on miscommunication and lack of communication. The both mains are reluctant to trust each other with important information leading to more misunderstandings. They do come to love each other however it's told by internal dialogue rather then see by the reader. The female main has a goal that she holds to regardless of what is standing in her way and it's quite admirable and inspiring. He makes a commitment to himself and holds to it. They both have internal strength that I wish author would have focused more on then the miscommunication. You will get use to the narrator or you won't it's her style she has narrator many books for Tantor.

Good enough

Mary and the male narrator. has destroyed this story. I don't know if the story is good because i haven't Ben able to get through it. the male reader is loud and robotic. the female reader is wispery and so soft they don't react to the ups and downs and the nuance in the story. I acutely felt the lack of momentum and became bored with thier silent relationship.

the horrible reading

Didn’t care for the dramatics of the female narrator.
I kept having to adjust the volume when her voice would drop down so dramatically.

But this was one that I didn’t know who the culprit was regarding the notes.

Love the story!

I will avoid these narrators in the future. The story may be nice enough, I’ll never know.
