To most people, it probably looks as if Laura has everything. Born in 1953 to wealthy Robert Hayden and his beautiful wife Lily, materially this is true. She lives in a Regency mansion, set in an attractive, good-sized country estate just outside of London. But behind the scenes it’s a very different story.

Entirely raised by a starchy nanny, she has no friends and when thrust into a private school, she struggles to make any. But upon reaching adulthood, her reserved personality doesn’t mean she has no suiters. There is Mark, a stubborn and difficult fisherman whom she first meets during a Cornish holiday; aristocratic James, a defence barrister in the City, kind Sam, who works for one of Hayden’s companies, and Gino, the charming son of an Italian marquis, to name just a few of them. But Laura has much to learn in both relationships and the complicated world of business. It is only when a friend introduces her to Christianity that she finally finds complete peace within herself.
