Love challenged. Truth revealed.

A home where she is welcome. That’s all Honor Ward wants. Oh, and maybe tenderness and yes, even love. She’s willing to do most anything to get it…even appear as a mail-order bride under false pretenses. She instantly falls in love with her new groom and is determined to prove she is the best wife and homemaker Luke could want. But will her dishonesty make love impossible? How long can she continue her deception?

Seeing how well his twin brother’s mail-order bride arrangement has turned out, Luke sets out to get himself a woman just like Matt’s wife. Honor seems ideal but to his surprise and shock, he learns that Honor is not what she pretends to be. Is this surprise bride exactly what he needs?

Can their fledgling love survive the challenges ahead for them?

This story is so compelling. A mail-order bride arrives from a difficult previous life. Luke the cowboy expecting a fancy, educated city bride. What kind of woman was she? The story flows so well. An excellent narrator tells the story so naturally. Linda Ford knows how to weave a delightful tale.

I was excited for Luke- who seemed to be the fun-loving brother- to get his love story. She did have a secret (which I always hesitate- how long until it comes out?? What will the consequences be??) I thought his reactions and thoughts were justified…for maybe 24 hours…not for weeks of being rude. He was everything she has been traumatized with her whole life. Even when they reconciled, he still acted toward and thought about another instead of her. I’m really bummed they didn’t actually reconcile until 98% of the way through. I love flawed heroes who grow, but his thoughts showed he never loved her, even in the end. I’ve loved other books by her, but Luke left a lot to be desired, and the time it took for her to finally feel accepted was heartbreaking.

Luke wasn’t a hero

I wonder why authors take so much time to write a book and then pick a narrator that is annoying to listen to. I love mail order bride books and have listened to many. This was a little too saccharine and I forced myself to finish it. I’ve read better.
