When you say “I do,” you begin the journey of a lifetime― and you have dreams of that journey being perfect. But it won’t take long for expectations of the perfect marriage to fade away in the struggles of everyday life. A long-term, vibrant marriage needs to be grounded in something sturdier than romance―it needs the life-changing power of the gospel.

In this rebranded edition of What Did You Expect?, popular author and pastor Paul David Tripp encourages couples to make six biblical commitments to the Lord and to one another. These commitments, which include a lifestyle of confession and forgiveness, building trust, and appreciating differences, will equip couples to cultivate thriving, joy-filled marriages built on Christ.

I am so thankful for this material. Every Christian couple should add this to their library and listen to it regularly throughout marriage. I only wish PDT had read it himself because the material is personal and I have heard him on many podcasts, I hope he does a version of he himself reading it.

Incredible material

I don’t normally write reviews but if you’re someone struggling in their marriage, I recommend this book. I have gone through a few different marriage books and now having been married for several years, this one is the best. This book my seem to some like it focuses a lot on the negative side of marriage but I think it’s supposed to, anyone who has been married for any extended period of time knows, understands or has likely faced some of the challenges and difficulties in marriage Paul points out in this book. He doesn’t just focus on the negatives but on resolve.

Great book!

Overly detailed on the negatives and cautionary tales instead of focusing on the positives. What he's saying is sound but it was very discouraging.

Emphasis on negative asspects
