Good book ruined by awful narration

Everything is read in with a slow, stolid, unnatural rhythm, with a constant tone of amazement, as if reading a shocking headline. The reader pauses between every few words, regardless of the content, as if she's seeing it for the first time and wants to make sure there are no mistakes. It's pure torture. I'm going to get the hard copy.

Utterly underwhelming

It's been a long time since I was so utterly underwhelmed by a novel. Of the more than 26 hours of listening, it muat have been less than 30 minutes where I was actually engaged in the story. At this point, I'm not even able to say if that is due to the writers lack of ability to engage with the reader or the narrator 's staccato, machine gun-like reading style. But in any case, I am hard put to see who would find this book interesting or enticing!
