Some inherit treasure. Edward inherited a town haunted by ghosts… and a deadly family curse.

10 Books in 1 - All 6 Miller's Crossing books and the 4 spinoff Novellas.

When Edward was a boy, his parents were murdered under mysterious circumstances. He swore never to return to Miller’s Crossing, the old town steeped in shadows and secrets.

But after tragedy strikes again, Edward finds himself back in his crumbling family home—with his children by his side. He soon learns his family didn’t pass down riches… they passed down a curse.

The streets whisper with restless spirits. Every corner of the town hides a secret. And the same darkness that took his parents is stirring once more.

To protect his children—and his own sanity—Edward must unravel the truth behind the curse before the ghosts of Miller’s Crossing claim another generation.

The story itself I’m sure it was pretty good. It was wholesome. Some of the religious references were incorrect. The AI reading just really ruined the story. I forced myself through the end of it, but I became so frustrated with the incorrect pronunciation of many English words that are spelt the same but are pronounced differently, depending on their usage that I wanted to figuratively throw the book. lol it is a shame the author could not hire a good actor to read the book as it was probably a lot better than it seemed

AI read so very distracting from story

Story always good and better than expected better than expected narration, Nothing compared to a good human narrator though. Came off as robotic at many points

Although the voice was pleasant, there were many moments I was “wait, what?” In various moments there was a true lack of inflection. I do not know if using AI includes editing where inflection is corrected and just many were not identified or if AI can perform inflection much of the time but not always.

Voice pleasant and story interesting

A couple inconsistencies, but nothing major. Good character development. Interesting twists and turns. Only real downside is the Virtual Voice which is horrible at pronunciation of names and changes pronunciation of then even within the same paragraph. There was one name where I counted 5 different pronunciations.

Good story

It wasn’t a bad story, and I understand that if Audible can get away with using AI as the narrator, they will save a ton of money.
AI narration is not ready for this move. Because the English language has several uses for the same word, the narration quite often use the wrong one.

An example of this is the word does. “does” means to get something done or it means a female deer. Although the word is spelled the same the pronunciation is very different as is the meaning. There were many of these throughout the stories.

There were also inconsistencies with names from book to book. Sarah promised to keep the name Myrtle’s for the shop because it’s what Myrtle wanted, then Charlotte promised to keep the name Stitch in Time because it’s what Myrtle wanted. In one book Father Rodrigo became Father Domingo. There were several instances of similar things.

Much of what was wrong could’ve been corrected with proofreading, but that’s what happens when you try and cut the budget.

The lack of proofreading.
