In Murder on Millionaires' Row, Erin Lindsey's debut historical mystery, a daring housemaid searches Gilded Age Manhattan for her missing employer and finds a hidden world of magic, ghosts, romance, and Pinkerton detectives.

Rose Gallagher might dream of bigger things, but she’s content enough with her life as a housemaid. After all, it’s not every girl from Five Points who gets to spend her days in a posh Fifth Avenue brownstone, even if only to sweep its floors. But all that changes on the day her boss, Mr. Thomas Wiltshire, disappears.

Rose is certain Mr. Wiltshire is in trouble, but the police treat his disappearance as nothing more than the whims of a rich young man behaving badly. Meanwhile, the friend who reported him missing is suspiciously unhelpful. With nowhere left to turn, Rose takes it upon herself to find her handsome young employer.

The investigation takes her from the marble palaces of Fifth Avenue to the sordid streets of Five Points. When a ghostly apparition accosts her on the street, Rose begins to realize the world around her isn’t at all as it seems - and her place in it is about to change forever.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Barrie Kreinik artfully portrays colorful people - locals and immigrants - who call New York City home in the nineteenth century." (AudioFile)

“Sharp, insightful, and more than a little sassy, Rose Gallagher is a heroine to cheer for. Lovers of historical mysteries and all things supernatural will devour Murder on Millionaires’ Row and clamor for more.” (Tasha Alexander, New York Times best-selling author of Death in St. Petersburg)

Such a fun story. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope there's a sequel in the making.

Fun and awesome

I totally enjoyed every twist & turn as the unlikely heroine , an Irish maid from 5 Points, seeks to unravel the twisting plot with help from a whole spectrum of characters, living - or not.

An enjoyable Victorian paranormal mystery

I returned this book. It tried to be good but it rambled too many places. Would not recommend.

I was surprised that this is a paranormal Victorian mystery. Maybe this series should be entered in the Paranormal genre. No worries I am glad to find this series. Lots of action and the female protagonist has a remarkable character. She has a strong personality which is admirable. I like the male protagonist too. Interesting story with good plots. Well written by Erin Lindsey and well performed by Barrie Kreinik. I am looking forward to the next book which already out in Audible.

ENJOYABLE.

I did like the overall writing ability of the author and enjoyed the narrator very much. I was caught into it right away but for me it went downhill more and more the longer it continued. There was too much action and too much of the supernatural for me and not enough substance. I would like to see how the budding romance turns out, but I suspect it will be stretched out so there can be additional books in the series. I did enjoy the look into that time period, but it seemed a bit superficial to me and not enough to put up with the non-stop twists and turns. I technically listened to the end, but was half asleep for most and don't really care to fill in the blanks. Disappointing as I think both the narrator and the writer are very good,.

Not my cup of tea
