This scheme, hatched between the older Chinese man and a handsome gay American ex-pat, exposes listeners to the parallels and differences of American and Chinese cultures-father-son relationships, familial expectations, sexuality, social mobility, and privilege.

Huang's writing abounds with sharp insights and a quiet humor, revealing the complexity of family relationships amidst two rapidly changing cultures.

Heart Rendering Story of Parental Love

I enjoyed the way the author’s words transported me to a humble town in China. I felt as if I lived there and, as a parent I could relate to the dreams we hold for our children’s future based on fears they might repeat our mistakes. We want them to have a better life than we did but we forget that they must find their own happiness. Beautiful story! The reader was wonderful with specific voices for each character.
