"People die. Everyone knows that. I knew it intimately as everyone in my life died thanks to my one seemingly harmless mistake. I'd brought down Heaven, lifted up Hell, and set the world on fire, all due to one slip of the memory. I forgot the pizzas...." Caliban is a dead man. The Vigil, a group devoted to concealing the paranormal from humanity, has decided Cal has stepped out of the shadows once too often, and death is the only sentence. They plan to send a supernatural assassin into the past to take down the younger, less lethal Cal. But things change when The Vigil makes one last attempt on Caliban's life in the present - and end up destroying everyone and everything he cares about. Now, Cal has to save himself, warn those closest to him, and kill every Vigil bastard who stole his world. But if he fails, he and everyone in his life will be history....

I hate that it ends on an unending cliff hanger. I wish the ending could/would be published.

Loved it.

Really enjoyed the series. Because other reviews tell us this ended on a cliffhanger (that never ends because the author quit writing the series) I found myself happier leaving while imagining that things work out rather than read to the bitter unending end.

Didn’t Finish

Andrews brings the characters alive. Thurman's writing again gives you a story that has soul and comedy mixed with insanity. Best one yet

Do not miss the action and the insanity!

I love all of Rob Thurman's books, but my favorite are the Cal Leandros books, and this one is the best yet! I have already read and re-read it several times and listened to it on Audible at least 3 times, as well. Cal back in time with his younger self and, currently younger than him, big brother, Niko brings in more depth and emotion to all of the characters. The irony of Cal being the one in the teacher/mentor/responsible person role is well delivered. The ending was a great cliffhanger that has me holding on by my barely there fingernails as I wait most impatiently for the next book and the continuation of the story.

Narrator:: This is my first Cal book on Audio, the rest of the series I've read paperback versions. I was very impressed MacLeoad Andrews. I had forgotten how "whiny" the younger version of Cal was, and there was a very distinctive voice difference between young Cal and older Cal.I also enjoyed Robin's voice.

Story: Beginning was slow and kind of rambling, making it hard on the audio version to tell what was going on. Once I understood what was happening, the book took off and ended on an amazing cliffhanger. I also had a fan-girl moment over the slight cross-over with Ms. Thurman's other series in the same universe. I listened to that entire scene a few times, it was just perfect.

Overall: This series isn't slowing down or getting bogged down by it's own history as sometimes long series tend to do. Cal is powerful but still struggles with both internal and external conflicts. Family and sacrifice is still a prevalent theme. While not my favorite book in the series, it does stand strong and is a good addition to the universe.
