One of the most recognizable young poets in America, Olivia Gatwood dazzles with her tribute to contemporary American womanhood in her debut book, New American Best Friend. Gatwood's poems deftly deconstruct traditional stereotypes. The focus shifts from childhood to adulthood, gender to sexuality, violence to joy. And always and inexorably, the book moves toward celebration, culminating in a series of odes: odes to the body, to tough women, to embracing your own journey in all its failures and triumphs.

Contains mature themes.

The poetry is amazing! I love this artist style and her words speak to me. BUT, the music in this recording detracts from the poetry. It is often really hard to hear her words over the music.

Amazing poetry, but the music

I love this work so much, but the audio took away so much from her story telling. At times it’s hard to even hear her voice over the music, making this a book I can’t listen to over and over again, even though I want to.

Beautiful writing, WAY too loud music

Amazing writing - absolutely love Gatwood. I couldn’t focus because of the background music. It was too much - it took away from the poems
