I wanted to love this book but couldn't continue

I love the poetry in this book and how incredibly it is performed. I personally had to return this title because I found it a bit too triggering and intense with respect to suicide and other sensitive topics (eating disorders as well.) If you are not in a good head space, I would not listen because although the writing is beautifully visceral, relatable, and descriptive- especially for those of us who have had similar experiences, it can be extremely triggering and disturbing with respect to certain topics. If you are in a dark place, it will underline and intensify feelings and ideations you may be having. There may be brighter, more encouraging pieces in this book, but I didn't make it to them because I had to stop listening. Just a fair trigger warning that somehow isn't reflected in much or any of the other reviews.

Evocative, brutally honest, gorgeous, relatable.

I was bawling a few lines in. Mary's poetry and experience mirror my own. I was simultaneously broken down and healed by this incredible book.

The words… hurt. In a good way.

The truth and bluntness is needed and healing. I both hated this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mary is amazing

Mary’s music is one of the most uplifting things in my life. So when I saw she had this book of poems out AND that she was narrating it herself I was fully on board. The things she has overcome are a. Inspiration to us all. And I will never not love her or not love myself because of the impact of her words.

This is beautiful

Her poems will bring you in tears.. I love her work, and it’s entirety of being a lesbian woman with no filter.
