Night of Cake & Puppets: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience! *
In this stand-alone companion to the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone series comes the story of Mik and Zuzana's fantastical first date.
Petite though she may be, Zuzana is not known for timidity. Her best friend, Karou, calls her "rabid fairy," her "voodoo eyes" are said to freeze blood, and even her older brother fears her wrath. But when it comes to the simple matter of talking to Mik, or "Violin Boy," her courage deserts her. Now, enough is enough. Zuzana is determined to make the first move, and she has a fistful of magic and a plan. It's a wonderfully elaborate treasure hunt of a plan that will take Mik all over Prague on a cold winter's night before leading him to the treasure: herself! Violin Boy is not going to know what hit him.
New York Times bestselling author Laini Taylor brings to life a night only hinted at in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy--the magical first date of fan-favorites Zuzana and Mik.
*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

I absolutely loved it! Zuzana is one of my favorite characters & getting to see how her & Mik officially met was super cute! I'm usually iffy on narrators during the first book of book series I've previously read but definitely not with this series. Khristine Hvam does such an amazing job bringing all the characters to life in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy & this was no different! It was also nice getting to hear things from Mik's perspective too. Kevin does a great job voicing him. The background music was a very nice touch & just magnifies the story! You feel as if you are there with the characters in Prague. If you haven't read Daughter of Smoke & Bone I highly recommend you start there. If you like unique storylines & otherworldly characters(like rabid fairies) you won't be disappointed!

Loved It!

It was with a small pang of sorrow I came to the end of Dreams of Gods and Monsters and had to leave Prague and its inhabitants behind. Hearing Zuzanna again, was like finding sudden peacock tracks leading back into the mystery of Prague again. The story is exquisite in itself; in many ways a sweeter love story than that of Karou and Akiva for capturing that fluttering magic of first love. Everything about this production points to perfection: Zuzanna and Violin Boy are brought to life quite convincingly by the narrators, the music and subtle sound effects draws the reader right into Prague. I have never listened to an audiobook where dual narrators and sound effects have contributed so much to the experience, I am beyond impressed. Undoubtedly the best book I have listened to this year!

The story I didn't know I needed but obviously did

Where does Night of Cake & Puppets rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 25 audiobooks that I've listened to. The musical accompaniment was a perfect mood setter/enhancer.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Night of Cake & Puppets?

I love how they met and all these things they did for each other to eventually end up in a boat, drinking tea and eating chocolate cake.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Zu was the one who put herself out there by placing a map in Mik's violin case, it was her way of asking him out/finding out if he liked her too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have but almost three hours was a bit longer than I wanted to listen straight thru. I broke it down into two parts.

Any additional comments?

Loved the atmospheric charm combination of the authors' words and the wonderful audio track. The characters' voices and accents were great and the music was a perfect accompaniment.
