In this Queen Bees and Wannabes for the elementary and middle school set, child and adolescent psychotherapist Katie Hurley shows parents of young girls how to nip mean girl behavior in the bud.

Once upon a time, mean girls primarily existed in high school, while elementary school-aged girls spent hours at play and enjoyed friendships without much drama. But in this fast-paced world in which young girls are exposed to negative behaviors on TV and social media from the moment they enter school, they are also becoming caught up in social hierarchies much earlier. No More Mean Girls is a guide for parents to help their young daughters navigate tricky territories such as friendship building, creating an authentic self, standing up for themselves and others, and expressing themselves in a healthy way.
The need to be liked by others certainly isn't new, but this generation of girls is growing up in an age when the "like" button shows the world just how well-liked they are. When girls acknowledge that they possess positive traits that make them interesting, strong, and likeable, however, the focus shifts and their self-confidence soars; "likes" lose their importance. This book offers actionable steps to help parents empower young girls to be kind, confident leaders who work together and build each other up.

This book is packed with lots of information and great messages, and she is right on with how girls can be socially aggressive from a very young age. At times, she comes off a little preachy and back seat driver-ish in her tone and words. I think overall a good book and very important read for parents and teachers.

Good book looking into the insights of mean girl culture. Gives a lot of ideas of activities, but I don’t think I can apply them all, would love if it had more examples and real life discussions with girls

I enjoyed this book. I will apply quite a few ideas when relating to our 11 year old daughter.

very insightful

My daughter has struggled with bullies and just out-right mean-spirited girls! I became this book with hopes of encouraging my daughter and equipping her to stand up to those girls. However, as I listened further, I heard several scenarios that described MY daughter perfectly. I also heard many others that describe these other girls we encounter often and struggle with. I'm humbled by the information I gleaned from this book and it helped change my mind and approach! I feel better equipped to guide girls through this tough time and can't wait to share it with other mom's! If there were a curriculum that I could implement in a Mother-Daughter group, I'd buy it right now and get started! Can we please make that a thing? Ha! But, seriously. Can we?

Must Read for Mom's with Girls!

Highly recommend. This book has shifted so much in our house for the better. Remind yourself girls still need to be kids, we need to model what we want to see, and we need to take the time to explain expectations and set them at realistic levels from the girls in our lives.

Fabulous book for parents of 2nd-8th grade girls
