The Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are our oldest written sources for Norse mythology. When it comes to the Norse myths, they are the closest thing we have to reading these stories as the vikings actually told them, around those ancient campfires so long ago. It is my hope that you will enjoy this collection, and that the two books will work in tandem to broaden and deepen your appreciation for these epic and mystical stories, and the enigmatic culture that spawned them.

Great listen loved it

This was a great listen. His voice was quite calming. Kept me interested throughout it.

the performance was very good

the reading of it was very good, very understandable ... some books they play too much and it is hard to understand !!!

Odd choices.

The book is really half as long as the run time. They pad this out by repeating the book but with "viking music" in the background. The person reading this is pitching his voice a bit low, maybe to give the reading more "depth and significance"

Hodgepodge of stories that are loosely connected written by a Christian.

This really shows how far humanity has come with narratives. This was a confusing narrative to follow. There is an excessive amount of dialogue between characters and the dialogue is actually used to tell the entire story more often than not. I can see how this could be used as a narrative device but it quickly wears out its welcome. There is very little character development or imagery which makes it hard to stay engaged with the story. I am extremely grateful for the modern adapted stories that are far more interesting than the Prose Edda or the Poetic Edda. This isn't surprising given that the original stories were destroyed by conquerors and this rehashing is written by a Christian named Snorri Sturluson. Unfortunately the world may never know what the original stories told. So if this is the best we can get I am thankful for the modern retellings.
