Acclaimed novelist Anne Rivers Siddons's new novel is a stunning tale of love and loss.

For as long as she can remember, they were Cam and Lilly--happily married, totally in love with each other, parents of a beautiful family, and partners in life. Then, after decades of marriage, it ended as every great love story does...in loss. After Cam's death, Lilly takes a lone road trip to her and Cam's favorite spot on the remote coast of Maine, the place where they fell in love over and over again, where their ghosts still dance. There, she looks hard to her past--to a first love that ended in tragedy; to falling in love with Cam; to a marriage filled with exuberance, sheer life, and safety-- to try to figure out her future.

It is a journey begun with tender memories and culminating in a revelation that will make Lilly re-evaluate everything she thought was true about her husband and her marriage.

Critic reviews

"Mix the lyricism of Siddons's prose; the intense, yet restrained voice of Oscar-winning actress Jane Alexander; and the mysteries of the untamed Maine coastline -and you have the makings of a magical voyage...."—AudioFile

I agree that the story was a little depressing and the ending less than optimal however I also think that ,more often than not, life is just that way. In my opinion this was a wonderfully expressed story of dealing with loss I can identify with. It has given me cause to think. I enjoyed it very much

I enjoyed listening to the story. I felt pretty much every aspect of Lilly's life and everything she lived through. I hopped for a different ending although. The ending left me empty and depressed: a life that is gone, with a greatest disappointment at the end... and only memories left. Which are not quiet memories anymore as much as imagination and desire of impossible? Just depressing...

Beautiful and depressing

I love the way Anne Rivers Siddons writes, so I really enjoyed most of the book. The pace is relatively slow and the writing is more descriptive than in most modern best sellers. This is not an action book, and even though I'm familiar with her writing, I expected something more to happen. I ended up being disappointed with the second half of the book. If you enjoy a casual stroll through Maine and just admiring the scenery, you'll like much of the book, but if you want action sequences, you'll be disappointed.

Not for Everyone

I am grateful to Anne Rivers Siddons for writing intelligent, insightful books for and about women. This is certainly one of them. She uses language to paint pictures and express moods and emotions and she writes with the assumption that her reader is educated, traveled and well read. If you are such a woman, then this is the author and book for you. If not, perhaps you'd be happier with one of the other popular writers for women.

Poignant story, beautifully written
