That's what Avery thinks as she takes a well-earned vacation with her boyfriend Eliot Kane. When the duo stumbles across a body at a local festival, Eliot has to force Avery to ease up on the suspicion and embrace the vacation decadence. She's out of her coverage area, after all, and she's supposed to be taking it easy. Eliot wants rest and relaxation but Avery is pining for adventure.

When Avery returns to work, the same carnival workers hit town for Mount Clemens' annual festival, and another body drops as soon as they arrive. Avery thinks its fate but Eliot isn't so sure.

Between moving into her new house, hiding from her overzealous mother while shunning the woman's decorating instincts, and potentially stirring a race riot when local politicians fail to care about an underprivileged victim, Avery has her hands full.

Danger is closing in on Avery, and it's coming from different directions. From nefarious politicians to shady carnival workers, Avery has her pick of suspects. When she finally zeroes in on one, though, things could become dangerous...for Avery.

Can Avery save herself when she uncovers a story bigger than she ever dreamed? Or will she fall victim to a killer's hatred and become another victim?

it doesn't matter how many times i listen to this series, when i get to this book, where Fawn is introduced... i Just can't Stand her! talk about insipid! i know Eliot has a reason for the people he employs. mainly airheads whose beauty is only skin deep, because they draw in more clientele and seem able to get (stupid) men to spend more money in his pawnshop. Eliot obviously has a good head for business. not so much in the way of curtailing Avery's insanity when it comes to these women. but Fawn? she is simply the Worst! she's sooo annoying! if i could somehow jump into the book, id happily help Avery rearrange Fawn's... ummm, yeahh...😁
ah well. Avery's interactions with Fawn definitely make for a good laugh=)

Great book series

i just finished book 10 and about to start book 11 and listening to the series one after another and cant stop

Good

Avery’s life is a mess, and who does like her if anyone. From the new publisher and the staff at the newspaper, to her love life. Enjoyable and with good narration. Given audio for my voluntary review

Funny with a side of evil

Janet Evanovich fans would enjoy the snark in these books. They also have a dark side as well. Avery is my favorite narcissist!

Fun with Avery

Avery Shaw is still working the new story circuit and getting information to the public driving the police crazy. Amanda M. Lee has continued to provide us with fun, great dialogue and interesting characters. Start the series from book one to understand the relationships and fun .
