His father is a white trapper, his mother an Athabascan Indian who walks a thousand miles in winter to reunite with her family. Thus, Jimmy Huntington learns early how to survive on the land. Huntington is only seven when his mother dies, and he must care for his younger siblings.

A courageous and inspiring man, Huntington hunts wolves, fights bears, survives close calls too numerous to mention, and becomes a championship sled-dog racer.

I wasn’t keen on the way it was read in the beginning, but the story is so good I just had to listen. After a while I got used to the narrator but never warmed to his style.
Please note that this is a subjective opinion and you should listen regardless.

Really enjoyed this book! I got bog down a little bit with the first chapter or two, but the rest of the book had me fully engaged. Will definitely be listening to it again.

Amazing life story

The story is great.
Unfortunately, the reader does not know how to pronounce Alaskan geography, which in my mind, significantly takes away from the performance. It also lacks the emotion and cadence that I would expect from an Alaskan elder (having been performed in first person), but the story was phenomenal.

A fantastic story
