From the author of the Gods Are Bastards series comes a new isekai adventure, in which a man is granted sinister powers he doesn't even want.
On a typical day, on an average train platform, two warring sister goddesses found their avatars. One avatar, the young Yoshi, was swept away to the world of Ephemera to be a great hero of honor, courage, and light. The other, the not-so-young Seiji, was swept away to become a dark lord out to kill or conquer all in his path.
But Seiji is in absolutely no mood for that nonsense. It's bad enough that on Earth he was a closed-off, misanthropic grouch with zero patience for other people. Now he's supposed to muster enough of a give-a-damn to lead vile hordes, crush Yoshi, and take all of Ephemera as his own? No thanks. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a choice.
Seiji's patron goddess wants results, and if he doesn't deliver, she's going to take a serious interest in discovering his pain, suffering, and overall misery threshold. But just because he doesn't care about people, doesn't mean he doesn't care whether they suffer by his own hand. After all, just because you're the embodiment of ultimate evil doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it.
The first volume of the hit fantasy adventure series—with more than five million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

1) There are no stats so you don't have to listen to the narrator repeat tables of numbers and descriptions. There are spells and brief descriptions of how things work but it's a very soft magic system. It lampshades the fact that there are a lot of numbers and nerdy references in the background but no one levels or assigns stat points or has to study skill trees.
2) The main character is smart so you don't have to listen as he makes obvious mistakes. He does make mistakes, but it's more of him not having enough information or being outplayed. Every action he takes causes a logical, economic, or political domino effect that he couldn't have foreseen.
3) The main character is OP but not overtly OP. He can cast spells at will and has seemingly unlimited mana to do so, but the world is written in a way where that isn't good enough to just let him succeed. He has to make the right choices and use his powers in smart ways.
4) There's opportunities for a harem but they are addressed and discarded. The main character even has a conversation with his seemingly beautiful and badass fighter/bodyguard where they acknowledge that it's weird that they aren't into each other. it's honestly a breath of fresh air.
I'm immediately going into book 2.
Honestly a great read.
