Jasper Andrews finds herself drawn into this superhuman world when a freak explosion exposes her to groups interested in secret abilities. When her family is killed under unbelievable circumstances, Jasper is the only suspect. She flees police custody and heads to New York City to lose herself in the crowds. Jasper wants revenge, but being chased by the police and superhuman bad guys, slows her down. While she's in hiding Jasper becomes more volatile; she begins manifesting traces of her siblings' abilities and begins to lose control. The Order of Vespers has decided she's too dangerous and too important to leave unguarded and capture her. Before she can escape, the killers strike again, this time taking children directly connected to the Order. Jasper is forced to choose between her vendetta and the lives of the Vespers and humanity.

I liked the storyline. The characters were good . What actually made this hard for me was the narrator. I felt like she was not able to be each character sometimes I was lost as to who was actually talking . I think had this been narrated by another I would have loved it.

Not bad

Jasper is an interesting heroine. She has supernatural abilities and a "split personality". Jasper is taken in by the Order of Vespers which is a society of people with supernatural abilities. They are unsure if she can be trusted or will be their savior. The Order is at "war" with a group of people who want to kill them off. Will be listening to the next story to find out what ultimately happens to Jasper and her friends.

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I’d like to know what happens next.
This book is loaded with action and a bit of romance. Jess being taught by, then ignored by one of her instructors felt awkward to me. I’m not sure if I missed the justification for it. Jess has a voice in her head that adds an extra element to the superpower story. The Order of Vespers “saves” her, yet is not what they seem. The book has a conclusion

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Monica Jays ) and I would listen to another. Not all the character voices were well defined, yet she gives others their own voice and brings out their personalities. For the most part, she dramatizes the story well.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. There is swearing.

This was an interesting story. the author had me glued to the audiobook, I wanted to know what would happen next and the world-building was well thought.
My only negative is that I found the main character annoying at times and I got her confused with the one she would not name.
