The fourth novel in the beloved Mitford series, by the bestselling author of At Home in Mitford and Somebody Safe with Somebody Good

Millions of readers have come home to Mitford, the little town with the big heart, whose endearing and eccentric residents have become like family members. But now change is coming to the hamlet. Father Tim, the Episcopal rector, and his wife, Cynthia, are pondering retirement; a brash new mayoral candidate is calling for aggressive development; a suspicious realtor with plans for a health spa is eyeing the beloved house on the hill; and, worst of all, the Sweet Stuff Bakery may be closing. Meanwhile, ordinary people are leading the extraordinary lives that hundreds of thousands of readers have found so inviting and inspiring.

Peopled with the lovable cast of characters familiar to so many, and peppered with plenty of new and colorful personalities, Out to Canaan is filled to the brim with the mysteries and miracles that make everyday life worth living, and that make Mitford one of the most memorable small towns in recent literature.©1997 Jan Karon; (P)1997 Penguin Audiobooks

I absolutely love this series, but this book not being narrated by John McDonough and I really don't like it being abridged .... was hard for me to get through. Looking forward to the next book.

Love this series but ....

I really enjoyed John McDonough's narration in the first two books. His characters really came to life. I hope Mr. McDonough returns for the remainder of the series. He is the perfect voice for Father Tim!

Different narrator

I am thankful that I was familiar with the story before listening b/c it was very chopped up in the abridgment. I actually enjoyed listening to Jan Karon read her own story, although I really love John McDonough's narrations. I just wish it wasn't abridged. But, in reliatening to the series, there was enough there to fill in the gaps.

Good, but abridged

Shame they only offered the abridged version or to my knowledge-will have to re-listen to my unabridged version on CDs

Wish this was the unabridged version

Jan Karon is a masterful storyteller, but unfortunately in this abridged version of this particular book, the reader is left wanting.
I missed John McDunough’s narration, but more than that, I missed most of the story due to it being abridged!
