When Dr. Sanjay Gupta travels the world for CNN to report on natural disasters, conflicts, and catastrophes, he illuminates the stories of the affected and the afflicted. But a few times in his career, while reporting abroad, he’s been asked to don his surgeon’s cap and gloves to intervene in high-stakes medical emergencies. Far from his controlled and highly regulated operating rooms, Gupta found himself trying to save lives in the most makeshift and trying conditions. Fueled by the potent combination of adrenaline and experience, he races against the clock to try to give patients a second chance.

Paging Dr. Gupta brings you on high-octane thrill rides through Iraq’s war-torn deserts and Haiti’s earthquake rubble, where the renowned medical correspondent reported amid tremendous chaos. When he’s unexpectedly brought in to operate, the patients and their stories transform Gupta, elevating his sense of purpose and driving home what matters most.

The final outcome of one of his patients who receives emergency surgery from him.

Sanjay Gupta also fails to do what he says is his ultimate goal in his mission and this book. Rather than touting the sacrifices and the successes of other doctors during humanitarian crisis situations, he only touts himself. Of course, what he’s done is pretty miraculous.
