If it was the only way of having a child...would you do it? A riveting thriller from the internationally best-selling author of the Roy Grace series.

After the tragic loss of their young son to a rare genetic disorder, John and Naomi discover they both carry a rogue gene. Having another child by conventional means is too much risk to bear.

When they find geneticist Dr. Leo Dettore, it seems like the answer to their prayers. Every aspect of the child can be chosen and manufactured, from height and eye color to intelligence and sporting prowess. But realizing the danger too late, Naomi is already pregnant when they understand the nightmare world they are entering....

A world of perfect people.

Utterly gripping and frighteningly plausible, Perfect People is a shocking thriller about what happens when humans play God.

Fascinating plot! Twists and turns. Unique. A great story. Finally something new. I totally recommend this book.

This was immensely entertaining, wonderfully narrated by Claire Corbett, given the many characters in the story.
I appreciate this cautionary tale of the perpetual fatal flaw of the human condition…mankind’s inexhaustible capacity for hubris…on multiple fronts.
In our delusions of grandeur, we fool ourselves into thinking we can control every aspect of our lives which begs the adage, “just because we can, doesn’t mean we should”.
Pride also leads to dogmatic agendas which are perilous things such as taking Biblical text out of context leading to rationalizations and disaster.
This story was bittersweet, leaving me feeling both sad and hopeful.

Chilling and disturbing

The story itself was a bit novel and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and then the last 55 minutes maybe even three minutes just was terrible and it just made me dislike the story. I can’t recommend it because of that.

The end was terrible

The story weaved and twisted, and the writing was so good that I didn't want to even guess what was next or where everything was headed! I just wanted to keep listening and enjoy myself getting lost in this book. I highly recommend this because it's not the typical psychological thriller. I'll be looking for more books by this author.

So good I didn't want it to end!

The scientific premise of the story kept me coming back. The story led into unexplored territory. Enjoyed the twists and turns for the most part, although, they did drag on and on.

The thought that most tormented me is as follows: 'Please have the potential parents of designer children take an IQ and EQ 'test' prior to being a candidate'. Naomi and John did not impress this reader/listener of having a lot of marbles rolling around. Naomi came across as unstable, incessantly asking stupid (yes I said it) questions to which there were clearly no answers. I wanted to reach inside the audio and ask her to just shut up. So after all that happy that I hung in there for the story.

Almost Bailed on this a few times!
