When my full-blooded Hawaiian mother was a very young girl, she was hanai adopted by her Aunty Ida. Being a personal friend of Queen Emma, Anty Ida lived in her summer palace in Nu'uanu. It was there that my mother lived and played.

Many years later, my brother and I went to visit Queen Emma's summer palace with my mother. The palace was now a museum. I did not understand my mother's subdued spirit and silence. As we walked the palace, I could clearly see emotions welling up within her and then being suppressed.

This should be a primer for Hawaiian history for all inhabitants of the islands. The amount of history and culture tied together in this work is amazing. I’ll forever think of Hawaii differently.

Very well researched and insightful. Mind blowing!

This book gave me so much perspective on Hawaiian history & what Hawaiian religion truly is. I pray that the curse on our lands will be lifted!

The life of the land shall be perpetuated in righteousness

Must read for those of Hawaiian & Polynesian ancestry. Growing up being taught Hawaiiana, listening to Dr. Kikawa’s has been freeing and has given me such hope as a person of Hawaiian ancestry. It solidifies my belief even deeper that there is only One True God and the God my tutu came to know is that very godhead 3 in 1.

Led me to tears
