This story by H.G. Wells is an early example of science fiction dealing with a parallel world. The narrator discusses the case of Gottfried Plattner, a schoolteacher who disappeared after an explosion when he experimented in chemistry class. He re-appeared nine days later, and found that his asymmetrical facial features had become the reverse of what is seen in an old photograph.
