"Pride and Prejudice" is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th century England.

Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London.

Though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of "most loved books" such as "The Big Read". It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature and receives considerable attention from literary scholars.

Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes.

To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.©2017 SAGA Egmont (P)2017 SAGA Egmont

4 stars because: There are 50+ chapters. At the end of each chapter; reader says, "End of chapter _____." Then the beginning of EACH next chapter, the reader announces the name of the book, the author, and next chapter. Got on my nerves.

Excellent story & performance!

The book is a classic, and wonderful. I enjoyed a lot remember the story of Elizabeth and Darcy. The only problem of this audiobook, in my opinion, is the fact on the end of each chapter, the narrator announced the end of the chapter, and at the beginning of the next, announced the title of book ... this is a little annoying, because you know what book you're listening to, don’t you? But the book is great, a classic.

Great book, good narrator

I won’t repeat the justified complaints about the narrator’s tediously announcing the name of the book and author again before each chapter. And I will compliment her use of characters’ voices, though I found the use of an American accent during the general narration a bit jarring in such a classic English novel. But the real disappointment was the author’s not accurately following the text. I listened to this while reading along with a first edition. Sometimes only minor words were dropped, but at other times words were reversed in order—-once or twice changing the emphasis. Worse was the occasional complete miss, such as “her friend” for “his friend”—entirely changing the reference of the sentence. There were unfortunately more than one of these substantive errors.

Strange errors in narration, though entertaining
