Lilah Fitzpatrick's childhood sweetheart broke her heart when he married another woman. She never thought she’d find the kind of love she lost. Then Steele Denegal - a fearless Yankee soldier - swept her into his world of passion and captured her heart. Suddenly Steele disappears, leaving Lilah alone and vulnerable to a treacherous man who's determined to destroy her, along with the memory of Steele's love. Will the promise in their passion find a future, or will Steele return before it's too late?

the story was actually very good but I had a little trouble with the reader. there were a few words mispronounced but mostly I felt like I was a child and she was reading a bedtime story.

good story but...

I can remember to be so totally absorbed by the book, could not stop listening until the end. What a fantastic old fashioned bodice ripper!
By no means this book is a literary masterpiece: it has million plot holes, badly handled racial issues (slavery), near rape and villain who is just too much... But nonetheless, this book had never had a dull moment, it moved along fast without silly misunderstandings and lengthy internal dialogues, there is a cast of interesting characters and wonderful Hero and Heroine.
This is probably what I like most about old fashioned romances like this, they are based on fast paced action and romance is constantly evolving without contrived angst and silly misunderstandings.
Spoiler❗️
The only thing that made me cringe here is infidelity, both Hero and heroine are deeply in love from the very beginning but due to the various events (mostly overly villainous villain) they are not together almost until the end. Thus Inevitably they have other lesser love interests....

Highly recommend, definitely one of my keeper!

Love, betrayal and redemption, absolutely loved it
