How do you run a clean ship?

His Majesty’s auxiliary ship Sparkle—the navy’s laundry ship—is home to the rejects of the fleet.

Midshipwoman Ophelia Branford is assigned there for her “middie” voyage.

She is assigned to the ship commanded by her sister—Captain Owami Branford—which should never happen. Something is wrong. And it only gets worse when Ophelia decides to help make the cleaning quicker.

What seemed like a good idea now threatens the very existence of their star kingdom...perhaps even mankind.

If you are expecting a military SF, this book is not it. The whole premise of a military feels like an afterthought, its structure or even its operation is about one layer deep and confusing as hell. The story is not at all engaging and the characters are about as far from relatable as one can get. Not a single one of them generated positive vibes that they somehow had a place in the story. Plastic.

The narrator’s pacing is monotonous and typically does not fit the story being read. Everything is one speed, one emotion. So annoying.

The book is just - bad.

Shallow, Cannot Connect

the story could be good, but the narrator must have thought the target audience was a bunch of toddlers. Every auxiliary character is voiced like a children's cartoon. think Dora the explorer, but less sophisticated. insane up listening half way through, I just couldn't take it anymore, I had to finish the book as text.

decent plot, horrible narration
