Book two of this new Xianxia Fantasy series by Spaizzzer, the best-selling author of Tree of Aeons. The series features cultivation, base-building, alchemy, and usual regressor awesomeness, all paired with a unique premise of finding enlightenment in family life instead of alchemy and solitary cultivation.

I am familiar with spaizers work and have listened to all of the Tree of Aeon books currently out there. This book is easier to listen to compared to Tree of Aeon. The pacing is similar as well. Like those other books the middle is just filler material. In the last two hours of the storytelling he writes with a sense of urgency, and things are more emphasized, and the plot is elaborated on. Still, as common in the writing style of Tree of Aeon, spaizer tells a story mostly by describing thought processes. In Tree of Aeon it felt I was listening to over ten hours of a brainstorming session. The Regressor isn't as bad but still shares this distinction. It seems spaizer is incapable of writing plot narratives because he can only tell what a person is thinking.

Giant lull in middle

The story is good enough to buy and read certainly. However it is lacking. When I listened to this novel I constantly felt it was progressing to slowly. There should’ve more time skips, more plotting, more building in secret. This is book two, and it still feels like the middle of book 1 which doesn’t work well imo.

Kinda meh.

the first book was great but feels like the second jumps around too much and doesn't allow events to breathe. too many moving pieces and too short of a book to move the narrative without rushing.

too much too fast and too many people
