To keep her parents from losing their farm in Pennsylvania, Emma agrees to travel to England and accept her grandfather’s offer to arrange a marriage for her with the Earl of Devonport. She secretly hopes marriage to this stranger will lead to love.

To honor his father, Devon agrees to marry Emma. A marriage of convenience is acceptable to the earl who wants no emotional ties. He needs an heir and not a demanding wife who would impinge on his freedom. She would be well provided for and have no cause for complaint.

Emma’s straightforward and unpretentious manner draws Devon’s reluctant admiration. Unfortunately, long-held fears are not easily overcome. When the unexpected happens, all hope seems lost. Emma must learn to trust God while surrendering her dreams and expectations into his care.

This is the first book in the Arranged Marriage Series. It is a Christian historical romance.

I enjoyed this book! It’s a beautiful story about trusting God in seemingly impossible circumstances and about learning to open your heart. I thought Emma was a delightful balance of independent fire and gentle kindness. Devon was a jerk who expected his wife to do all the giving for most of the book and I would’ve liked to see more growth from him instead of a sudden about face, but even still his redemption was satisfying. The characters had depth which, frankly, is not always the case from Christian authors. I thought the book was very well written.

The narrator does a great job, as well.

This was a good story and I enjoyed it. I do think the main character (Devon) was a selfish, rude, idiot. I would have wanted to give him the boot if I were Emma. I did love how Emma was kind and forgiving though. This book had lots of references to God and Scriptures, but it wasn’t so in your face that it was annoying.
The narrator did a great job she had different voices for her characters and her voice wasn’t irritating. All in all it was a good book.

Clean regency

I enjoyed hearing the book very much. The author created just the right amount of tension between the characters and the suspense kept me listening until it was resolved. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good romance and who would enjoy some history. It was a delightful book.

Reluctant to Wed is is a book I have now enjoyed three times; twice through paperback and once on Audible. I’m so glad I listened to this story!
The characters are lovable, fickle, frustrating, exciting, and all around a joy to get to know!
I love that the moment you think things are going a certain way, the author surprises you yet again.
Reluctant to Wed is a must-read for any historical romance lover! There is also a sequel, The Marriage Maneuver, which I also loved!!
Anneliese Dalaba has a wonderful way of weaving a web of love, uncertainty, romance, and surprises for the book lover.
Don’t let this series pass you by!
