Can you run away from love?

She thought Harry loved her and she was prepared to wait for him, but Lyla is devastated when he becomes engaged to someone else. He writes to explain his reasons and she wants to forgive him, but all she can think of is escape.

She persuades her father to send her to Ireland to help in purchasing horses for the family business. In spite of meeting the engaging Finn and all sorts of other new people, from camp followers to the Colonel's lady, Lyla still falls asleep with Harry's folded and re-folded letter against her breast.

Then her father calls her home. Will she be able to take up the threads of her old life? Or has Ireland has changed her for ever?

Is it possible to repair a broken heart?"

I was entertained by this story. Harry and Lyla were planning on getting married, but Harry needed to acquire some money first. When Harry's family's need for money became too urgent, Harry agreed to marry an heiress. Lyla was devastated. Lyla asked her father to let her go to Ireland to help purchase the horses needed for his business. The story had all the elements of a great romance. There was friendship, betrayal, machinations, humor, and love. I liked the characters of Lyla and Finn and enjoyed their tangled path to love. I appreciated that the female protagonist was fierce, independent, and opinionated. She didn't let society dictate her every thought and action. GL Robinson's narration was charming, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Invigorating Regency Romance

i'm an avid regency romance reader and own over 700 such audiobooks as well as several thousand such e-books. I own and have read and listened to all of this author's print and audio books. I've always found listening to this author read aloud her own books quite pleasurable. I found this a book worth a credit and enjoyed it a great deal. I gave this book 4 stars as to narration because I noticed that she made a few reading stumbles during one chapter. It didn't spoil my own enjoyment, but might be a problem for a listener who demands perfection. I only gave the story itself 4 stars because of my own bias against stories involving the painful difficulties in Ireland, and characters who are full of B.S. aka Blarney, and I prefer stories who do not incorporate drinking lots of whiskey as a normal part of their lives.

Enjoyable, interesting, well-written and clean.

I look forward to each new Regency romance from this author. This story was enjoyable, but I really like the unusual slant of G L Robinson’s stories. I always learn something, and this story was full of things I didn’t know anything about: Ireland, horse breeding, etc…. I liked the story and the characters, especially the leading female. I don’t mind that the author reads her own stories, but she is not professional so people should know that.
