Orphaned at a young age, Hetty is convinced her circumstances make her unworthy of having a family of her own. When a job opportunity as a housekeeper presents itself, Hetty accepts believing that working for Isaac Wheeler and his family is a welcome, if not temporary, surrogate for her own family dreams. As she’s faced with learning to trust, she discovers that wanting a family and building a family are two very different things.

Will she learn to see herself as worthy of God’s gifts? Or will she return to the solitary existence that defined so much of her life?

Isaac Wheeler, successful furniture maker and dishonorable bachelor, finds Hetty’s presence in his home to be disturbing and a haunting reminder of his past sins. As he struggles with his growing and unwanted feelings, he can’t help but torment himself with mistakes from his past.

Can he navigate the family tensions, infidelity, and sudden choices destined to keep them apart? Or can Isaac endure each struggle and seek forgiveness before discovering what truly makes a family?

This is the second book I have listened to in this series as I didn't realize I was actually listening to the 3rd book first. So this I believe is the first in the series and it is a great romance with some mystery and suspense. I had not listened to this author or narrator before and I have to say they both did a great job of giving us a story that is satisfying to the soul. I enjoyed how the characters were very much as they were in the period this series takes place. A people that trusted God and put their faith in Him for day to day living. People who were always there to help their neighbors and friends and to join together for harvest time, to share their bounty and have some fun. I enjoyed the books I have listened to so far and I will continue to listen to the rest in the series. I would like to thank Audiobooks Unleashed for giving me a free code to listen to this book on Audible. This review is my own honest opinion.

A beautiful beginning to some great stories!

A sweet story of how she didn’t think she coukd have love, and then opended herself to it. Was well done, and enjoyed the narration by Heather. Given audio for my voluntary review

This story has both Christian undertones, with the well used family Bible, dinner prayer, and church attendance while also being a bit sexier than a traditional Sweet story. The kissing scenes are quite intense and since the author is new to me, I thought it actually might leave the Sweet genre. But I enjoyed this indepth story of an orphan girl who finally finds love and family and self acceptance!
The narration was almost perfect! I loved her deeper voice.
There were a few sections where the lines were repeated, so the book needs that corrected, but I can't wait to read/listen to more in this series!

Sweet Historical Romance

This was an emotional journey through sadness, loneliness, adventure, doubt, trust, love, and a touch of mystery. The story was intriguing and the narration superb. If you enjoy western adventure and love, this one will be worth your time.

Sweet traditional love story. Very innocent. But I love the narrative by Heather. She breathes such life into a story.

Narrator is amazing
