Humans and Mystics have been at war for as long as Kala can remember. For this reason, contact with any of the magical creatures that inhabit the forest near her home is punishable by death.

So when an elf rescues her from being kidnapped by his brother, she has good reason to question his motives. That is, until she learns the truth: that it was a human who killed her mother, not a Mystic, and that she and the whole kingdom are being lied to.

But confiding in the wrong person opens old wounds, and Kala must choose between her family and a blossoming romance. Can her love unite their people? Or has she doomed everyone she cares about?

A BITTERSWEET ADVENTURE WITH AN ELVEN PRINCE, AND A HUMAN GIRL.
THE STORY WAS VERY WELL WRITTEN, BUT DARKER THAN I PREFER, IT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO HEAR THAT THEY KILLED THE ELVEN PRINCE, AND IN THE END SHE HAS THEIR DAUGHTER TO RAISE ON HER OWN

IS THE REST OF THE SERIES TO BR RELEASED?

I greatly enjoyed the well developed characters and the world building in Ring of Fire.

The War between the Humans and the Mystics, those who use magic or are magic, continues in a low key way, but is about to break open again. Kala breaks her uncle's rules and goes into the forest. She returns safely, but she is followed. She ventures into the forest again, but danger strikes and she is rescued by Azlyn, an elf. an evil Mystic. Or is he. He calms her down and returns her to her home. She can't stop thinking about Azlyn, so when he invites her back into the woods, she goes.

As their love blooms, secrets come out and war finds them.

This book was a great read for this well over young adult reader. I would recommend Ring of Fire to anyone 10 to 15, or someone young at heart who loves adventures in a magical world.

Humans vs. Mystics, yet love can bloom.

I loved this story. Full of magical creatures, betrayel & courage. Kala's parents died while traveling on the road. She had to live with her uncle & his daughter. Since their property was on the barrier of the woods her uncle constantly quizzed them about all sorts of magical creatures & their weaknesses. One evening she was followed by an elf. She managed to escape but her curiosity was now in overdrive. Her uncle was away alot so Kala & Audrey were left alone a lot. While having lunch in their tree house they noticed the elf watching them. Kala decided to follow him into the woods. When she crossed the barrier she found herself in another realm. She ended up learning more about her mothers death than she wanted. Now she was torn. Did she follow her heart and help the elves or remain with the cruel humans?

This was my first Stevie Rae Causey's book. This is a companion to the Amasai Rising Trilogy. The characters are well developed. The world building is original and intriguing. The storyline is captivating, and fast-paced, filled with betrayal, angst, and twists and turns. Susan Hanfield did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward for more in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
