Recommend for a winter escape

I have a love/hate relationship with Eva Chases work and this book was similar. It was fantastic in some ways, but lacking in the build up and laying the ground work for the characters and plot. Once I got past the beginning of the book, where I felt confused a lot, and understanding the sacrifices (which were gruesome to imagine), I was totally invested. The beginning of the book was a struggle bus and therefore I have to 4 star the story (though it’s more of a 4.5 star). Other than that, it’s a fabulous why choose romantasy for a winter escape. I loved the ending and the characters were all incredibly interesting and the guys smoldered hard core. Very sexy scenes for those who enjoy the more descriptive language.

A Unique World with Unique Characters

I've learned to wait for Eva to put out a Complete Series collection before I start any of her books because I am too impatient once the story gets going. I've been waiting to read this one FOREVER! It was well worth it, though. The narrators did a great job differentiating between characters, and I have no complaints about their performance. I loved the characters and the story kept my complete attention, even though I'm still a bit sour about how I fell for the trap set by a certain 4th member of the investigation club! That was tricky, Eva, very tricky, but you made up for it and then some by the end so I forgive you. I'll miss Ivy & Co, and hope to see them again in more abandoned realm stories!
