Great potential, abysmal execution

This was so gay but I couldn’t enjoy it because everyone is so insufferable. So many things have no explanation other than “because plot that’s why”. Also you really don’t need to describe every single side character as “a black gentleman” or “a white girl” or “an elderly black woman”. People actually had more traits than just their skin color and their skin color has NO BEARING on the story. I’ve never listened to a book sped up before but I had to just to finish this. I refused to let this book defeat me.
