In this multimillion-copy bestselling series from #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh, former prosecutor Morgan Dane faces the most personal - and deadly - case of her lifetime.

After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity - until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.

Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

This book kept my attention to the very end! Well done suspenseful story line. Just what I was looking for. I will definitely read more books written this author. I would definitely recommend this this title as a good read.

Perfect in every way!

Way too much about the developments of the romantic relationship along the story. The detective part itself lacks the mystery.
But good overall.

Too much romance

I liked the beginning of the book, but the end felt rushed and wrapped up to quickly.

A bit of a let down

This book was okay. It kept me engaged enough to listen through to the end. Got a little sappy in the last few chapters but, overall, it was an okay listen. Several notches below really good, and definitely not brilliant. Formulaic may best describe it.

A great cast of strong characters lead the reader through the winding path of this racing plot... and by racing, I mean this one sets such a pace it could be an Olympic contender. I was out of breath before the first couple of paragraphs were completed, and I really didn't recover until the final stroke of the author's diabolical pen.

Morgan Dane is a heroine to be proud of: she's brilliant, compassionate, a loving mother, a strong young widow, and nobody's fool. Sure, she's got baggage. Who wouldn't in her shoes? But she's coping like a champ even if she doesn't realize it sometimes. She's also loyal to a fault--ready to destroy her career and her reputation to help a young neighbor and friend who's seriously in trouble. She's smart enough to know when to enlist the help of a good friend who's been by her side for years, Lance Kruger. He's the best help a woman could ask for, and delectable as well. He's also been crazy about her for years, but, well... it's complicated.

This is romantic suspense at its finest. Morgan and Lance throw sparks like magnesium off flint throughout the story, while the ancillary characters round out a superb and diverse cast. The story line never. lets. up. as you realize nearly everyone in this small town is lying for one reason or another. Basically, sorry--not sorry I read this one! It was amazing.

Holy Moly
