A gym nemesis pushes a fitness influencer to the max in Amy Lea’s steamy debut romantic comedy.

Curvy fitness influencer Crystal Chen built her career shattering gym stereotypes and mostly ignoring the trolls. After her recent breakup, she has little stamina left for men, instead finding solace in the gym – her place of power and positivity.

Enter firefighter Scott Ritchie, the smug new gym patron who routinely steals her favorite squat rack. Sparks fly as these ultra-competitive foes battle for gym domination. But after a series of escalating jabs, the last thing they expect is to run into each other at their grandparents' engagement party.

In the lead up to their grandparents' wedding, Crystal discovers there’s a soft heart under Scott’s muscled exterior. Bonding over family, fitness, and cheesy pick-up lines, they just might have found her swolemate. But when a photo of them goes viral, savage internet trolls put their budding relationship to the ultimate test of strength.

Wow, was this book a lot for me. I was so excited to read this as a book club selection. I actually did not know what this book was about until chapter 5 I decided to read the Synopsis of the book. After reading about it I was pleasantly surprised and excited about that aspect. A plus size influencer who talks about body positivity and loving your self hitting the gym and enjoying life with a gym Enemy “squat thief “ what can go wrong. SO MUCH CAN !! While I absolutely enjoyed the writing and loved the narrator, I just felt that this book just was not it for me.

1st half of the book I was hating Scott. By the 2nd half I was very upset with Kristal. I felt no chemistry in this story. Just 30yr acting like teenagers.

This book had many plots that were left unchecked. I this the MC never talks about how beautiful she is or what she loves about her body, but focus one Scott. Gosh I get it “he is HOT” but like the conventional Europe white all American hot. Ok I got! Now move on. I also hated the back and forth she had inside her head overthinking everything and coming up with elaborate stories. Every time I read it I kept on thinking wow where did she get that from. How did she come up with that. Why would she think her grandma was cheating on her grandpa 😤. It was a lot.

By the 3rd act dreaded breakup. 😒. I was over this book. Just over it. I hope the next book that comes out is a bit less in the MC head and more enjoying life and not Self-centered selfish and Judging.

I loved the narrator. The audiobook was well produced. The pace was great. I look forward to reading Amy’s next book.

Not for me. But will try her next book

I read these books out of order. They are both good, and I really dig Amy Lea’s refreshing takes on classic tropes. But the sequel Exes and Os is a better story and the narrator is better. Read both!

Cute! But the sequel is better

This story didn’t really progress. It was the same issue the whole time and it had nothing to do with the romance.

A bit slow

But worth it! I liked the body positivity aspects of this book, but I also liked that she had some doubt too and how she learned that was ok.

Slow Burn…

I know that author didn’t want to represent just one story of a curvy protagonist but listening to Crystal grow from body positivity to body respect was lovely.

Great message
