A. W. Gray
This crime fiction novel from the author of the Bino Phillips series follows former Dallas police officer Frank White as he matches wits with an attractive ex-convict, who tries to entrap him in a kidnapping plot through which she hopes to beat the system. Facing a counterfeiting scheme, double crosses, and murder, White must summon all his skills as a detective to hunt down the conspirators and bring them to justice.

In or around 1990 the author, Bill Gray was indicted, tried and sentenced to 4 years in prison by the Feds for mail fraud. While he always maintained his innocence, there is no question that not one person was defrauded of money. So while he may have been guilty of something minor, imprisonment for 4 years seems like overkill. But his internment was our gain, for it was then that began writing a string of great mystery novels.
Frank White manages a Hagen Daaz store in Dallas. He is also a convicted felon on parole. 9 years earlier he shot and killed a black drug dealer in self defense. Unfortunately the dealer's father was a prominent city councilman. He was exonerated by the local police, but tried again by the feds for hate crimes. Frank's story exposes the flawed parolee system, as well as the FBI's unquenchable appetite for media exposure.
No question in my mind Shares is written from personal experience with parole officers, FBI agents and assistant US Attorneys.
This is yet another great read from Mr. Gray.
