I say 'surprisingly' because I usually have no interest in all things western, including film and television. But, I thought I'd give a new genre a go, and decided to listen to this. It's a bit better than other fiction stories I've listened to as of late, both as a story, and with the narration. The characters were interesting, and the writing was decent.

I'll be looking out for both the writer and the narrator.

Surprisingly Good

Showdown in Santa Fe was like watching an excellent B movie. It was simple and predictable, but it was also engaging and well-crafted.

This story follows the bounty hunters Burt and Shade as they rid the wild west of outlaws and bandits. I came to appreciate these characters after only a few chapters (this 3.5 hour book has 53 chapters!). Mick Beacham does a great job describing the attitudes and convictions of these men. They were both relateable and they had substance. The other characters that made an appearance were well-written and unique. The dialogue was mostly excellent; it truly felt like these characters were having real conversations. And some of the interactions were very amusing, as characters fought against their better judgement.

The story was simplistic. The bounty hunters were tasked with taking on a gang of outlaws, and the adventure played out about as I expected. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every minute. And Cynthia Hemminger did a good job narrating the story. Although, I suspect that this story would've been better told through a male narrator. Some of my favorite narrators are female, but I expect stories with a primarily male cast to be narrated likewise.

Overall, I enjoyed Beacham's wild west tale. I'm excited to join him on his next adventure.

An enjoyable, simplistic adventure.

Fun book to listen to, narration was a bit off at first but when I got into the story I stopped noticing it. The romance dialogue was a bit cringey too but I think it was meant to be that way. All in all I enjoyed it

Fun listen

I enjoyed listening to story and was pleased. I had it on while commuting back and forth to work and ended up finishing it off that night. It was an original story and I can tell the writer really enjoys the western genre. I'm looking forward to some more.

Really good story!
