Kenny Gabriel is three years away from turning sixty, has forty-three quid in the bank and is occasionally employed to find people who would rather not be found. Broke, clientless and depressed, he knows things can't get much worse. Then he's summoned to the office of London media magnate Frank Parr, whose daughter, Harry, is missing - and there's ten grand on the table to get her back.

It's a lot of money, and God knows Kenny needs the cash. But he and Frank have a history he'd rather not revisit. Kenny worked for him in the seventies, when Frank was the head of a Soho magazine empire and owner of an infamous nightclub. And Kenny might still be working for Frank now - if he hadn't witnessed his boss brutally torturing another employee.

Kenny suspects taking this job is a mistake, and he's probably right. Because while he may be done with the past, the past is far from done with him.

Would you listen to Soho Dead again? Why?

I might listen to the very end to clarify exactly what happened.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Everything. He made each character unique.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I chuckled several times and laughed out loud at least once.

Any additional comments?

The narration was excellent and the characters were very interesting (especially Kenny). I guessed the first twist, but none after that. I'll probably read the second book in the series.
I liked this book a lot. But, I was expecting a little more.

Expected A Little More

This is a readable book with a competent narrator and some interesting story elements . . . but the plot gets to be a longer stretch as the story continues, with some elements being absurdly predictable and others just silly. Subsequent issues might get better . . .

a series of unlikely events

This is my first George Keen book and Simon Vance as the narrator absolutely loved his voice and his pause and his professionalism. The book was good very suspenseful . I don't know what to say other thsn it's a great detective novel . Typical of what I like , one of those nice British novels that I like and there's not really more I can say. It was a great mystery, the writer was awesome with the storyline . I mean it's your typical detective story but to my was something that you did drag you into the storyline and you were able to listen to it and derive from from what is said and put together the puzzeled meaning.
I think that it made the reader get involved with Keens thinking as far as who you thought was behind Harry's murder. I thought many times, but was wrong in the end. Who is behind all this ? assassins auction had me thinking . it also left me a little confused because to my understanding the person behind it wasn't even his child so a bit confused at the ending.
